Alaska is the wildest place on earth

Alaska is the perfect place to spend time volunteering because just being in Alaska brings one a sense of truly being a part of nature and all of her raw energy and thrills. Currently, the Global Volunteer Network has volunteer opportunities through our partner organization in Alaska; this organization is a private, non-profit organization registered in the United States. Alaska is rich in state parks, national parks, national wildlife refuges, national forests, national recreational lands and wild and scenic rivers. Alaska has more public lands than any other state. Alaska is by far the least densely populated state in the U.S., with a population over 600,000, roughly equal to Austin, Texas. Some 15.6% percent of the population is Native American or Alaskan Native, and the largest ancestry group is German.

Alaska is the wildest place on earth. Wonders of nature abound at every turn. Alaska is home to 17 of the 20 highest mountains in North America, including Denali (Mt. McKinley), at 20,320 feet the highest peak in North America. Alaska is the only State in the Nation lacking current, accurate, high-resolution maps. The fact Alaska does not have a state-wide digital map is a deterrent to economic growth and a risk to public safety.

Alaska is big country! All of Todd's hunts are backpack hunts. Alaska is the largest state in the United States in terms of land area at 570,380 square miles (1,477,300 km?), over twice as large as Texas , the next largest state. If the state's westernmost point were superimposed on San Francisco, California , its easternmost point would be in Jacksonville, Florida . Alaska is the largest state, but only a small portion of the land mass is subject to a property tax. Only 25 Alaskan municipalities (either cities or boroughs) levy a property tax.

Alaska is A piece of America that offers pure wilderness, adventure ranging from wild to mild, fascinating history and a multi-cultural heritage reflected in art, lifestyles and communities throughout the state. Alaska is located in the extreme northwest portion of North America. It is the 49th state, having been admitted to the Union on January 3, 1959. Alaska is very cosmopolitan with the number of people speaking different languages; the Anchorage school district reported that the student body speaks 83 languages. Alaska is 1/3 the size of the continental U.S.

Alaska is arguably the least-connected state in terms of road transportation. The state's road system covers a relatively small area of the state, linking the central population centers and the Alaska Highway, the principal route out of the state through Canada. Alaska is very close to the north pole which dramatically affects its climate and daily calendar. Northern Alaska is often referred to as the "Land of the Midnight Sun" since the sun does not set, providing 24 hours of daylight, from early May to early August. Alaska is a world in itself, catering to every person's tastes and needs. Nobody goes home disappointed.
